Licensing and Copyright

Authors retain copyright in their original text when publishing with Malton London Press. The publishing agreement grants the Press permission to publish and distribute the agreed edition. The rights holder, year and licence appear in the publication and its online record. Edited collections may identify rights separately for individual chapters and editorial material.

Choosing a licence

We agree the licence with the rights holder before publication, considering any funder requirements. No single licence is retrospectively imposed on the entire catalogue. Existing works retain their stated terms unless a properly authorised change is documented. A later change cannot withdraw permissions already validly granted under an irrevocable Creative Commons licence.

Third-party content

Images, extracts, data or other material credited to third parties may carry different terms. Exceptions are identified next to the material or in the rights statement. Users must obtain permission where their intended reuse falls outside the applicable licence or legal exception. A book’s Creative Commons notice must not imply permission over material the author does not control.

How to credit a work

Give the author or chapter author, title, publication year, publisher, DOI or source link and licence. Indicate relevant changes when adapting the work. Attribution must not suggest that the author or Press endorses the reuse.

Website and publication rights

Rights in the website’s design, branding and original website text are separate from the rights in published books, chapters and papers. The licence on an individual publication governs reuse of that publication. For rights enquiries or a suspected discrepancy between a book and its online record, contact info@maltonlondonpress.com.
