Abstract

Prompt engineering, which defines the framework of interaction with artificial intelligence (AI), is emerging as a new competency within knowledge management (KM) processes. The rapid increase in the use of AI in daily life makes the role of prompt engineering increasingly significant in KM, tacit-explicit knowledge transformation, decision support, and digital transformation processes. The aim of this study is to present the current state of the prompt engineering literature from a KM perspective and to identify gaps and future research directions in the field. In this context, a search was conducted in the Scopus database using the keywords “knowledge management” and “prompt engineering” and 213 publications were analyzed. The analysis examined such aspects as the concentration of publications across fields, their distribution by year, major trends, emerging themes, and similar aspects. The results indicate that the prompt engineering literature remains largely focused on computer science, while publications in the fields of business, management, and accounting are limited; moreover, they reveal significant opportunities for future research in areas such as ethics, practical applications, and organizational integration. This study is expected to provide a foundation for research on the use of prompt engineering in knowledge management and to serve as a basis for further studies in this domain.
